Sorry that we missed last week’s “Week in Review” because we went out of country.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.intelligentspeculator.net/uncategorized/apple-aapl-leaps-past-microsoft-msft-as-the-top-tech-company/">Intelligent Speculator</a> highlighted the big news of last week, i.e. Apple has surpassed Microsoft in term of market capitalization.</p>
<p>Canadian Capitalist mentioned saving account at two financial institutions that offer higher interest rate than the big banks. They are <a href="http://www.canadiancapitalist.com/ally-a-good-choice-for-savings-accounts/">Ally</a> (owned by GMAC) and <a href="http://www.canadiancapitalist.com/peoples-trust-reader-choice-for-savings-accounts/">People Trust</a>.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.milliondollarjourney.com/residential-vs-commercial-real-estate-investment-comparison.htm">Million Dollar Journey</a> compared investing in residential versus commercial real estate. Which one is better?</p>
<p><a href="http://wheredoesallmymoneygo.com/how-to-do-a-background-check-on-your-advisor">WhereDoesAllMyMoneyGo.com</a> had some tips on how to check the background of your financial advisors.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.ritholtz.com/blog/2010/05/dow-head-shoulders-chart/">The Big Picture</a> had a technical analysis chart of S&amp;P 500 and mentioned a possible head-and-shoulder pattern, which could lead to a bigger pullback to 870 level.</p>
<p><a href="http://etfdb.com/2010/why-emerging-market-bond-etfs-are-safer-than-developed-markets">ETF Database</a> had an interesting posting why emerging market bonds might be safer than developed market bonds.</p>

<p><a href="http://etfdb.com/2010/three-country-etfs-with-low-correlations-to-spy"><strong>ETF Database</strong></a> gave 3 ETFs that have low correlation to S&amp;P 500, i.e. EWM, THD and ECH. You should consider them if you want diversification.</p>
<p><a href="http://canadiancouchpotato.com/2010/05/14/tips-for-trading-etfs/"><strong>Canadian Couch Potato</strong></a> had some tips of trading ETFs, especially when we had “technical glitch” like what we had recently in May 6 where Dow Jones dropped almost 1,000 points in about 15 minutes.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.canadiancapitalist.com/dos-and-don&rsquo;ts-in-trading-etfs"><strong>Canadian Capitalist</strong></a> had similar a list of dos and don’ts in trading ETFs. It is also for the same purpose, just in case we had another “technical glitch” in the future.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.milliondollarjourney.com/save-money-with-voip-voice-over-ip.htm"><strong>Million Dollar Journey</strong></a> had an article on how to save money on your phone call by using VoIP (Voice over IP).</p>

<p><a href="http://etfdb.com/2010/ten-common-mistakes-every-etf-investor-should-avoid/">ETFDb.com</a> has a list of 10 common mistakes ETF investors should avoid. He suggested not to buy a bigger house just because of social power and self-esteem. We shouldn’t buy a house if doing so will keep us in credit card debt.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.milliondollarjourney.com/avoid-the-5-year-fixed-mortgage-trap.htm">Million Dollar Journey</a> has adviced us not to get trapped in 5-year fixed mortgage. We should always go to variable-rate mortgage or short-term mortgage.</p>

<p><a href="http://blog.canadian-dream-free-at-45.com/2010/04/14/bring-on-higher-interest-rates-im-ready"><strong>Canadian Dream: Free at 45</strong></a> had some ideas what to do when interest rates hike later this year. As indicated by <a href="http://www.canadianmortgagetrends.com/canadian_mortgage_trends/2010/04/banks-see-a-275-rate-hike-in-19-months.html"><strong>Canadian Mortgage Trends</strong></a>, there was a report from Canadian Big 5 Banks that we might see 2.75% interest rate hike by end of next year. Better be prepared.</p>

<p><a href="http://www.intelligentspeculator.net/stock_opinions/googles-goog-next-billion-dollar-business/"><strong>Intelligent Speculator</strong></a> has a series of “Google’s next billion dollar business”. How about getting more profits from Google’s free services, such as YouTube and Android? He also mentioned the possibility of Google to become <a href="http://www.intelligentspeculator.net/free_stock_picks/googles-goog-next-billion-dollar-business-financial-data-provider-part-2-of-4/">financial data provider</a> and <a href="http://www.intelligentspeculator.net/stock_opinions/google%E2%80%99s-goog-next-billion-dollar-business-financial-research-part-3-of-4/">financial research</a>.</p>
<p><strong>Canadian Couch Potato</strong> has two postings about tracking errors on Canadian ETFs. His analysis on <a href="http://canadiancouchpotato.com/2010/04/06/tracking-errors-on-ishares-etfs/">iShares ETFs can be found here</a>; while his analysis on <a href="http://canadiancouchpotato.com/2010/04/09/tracking-errors-on-claymore-etfs/">Claymore ETFS can be found here</a>.</p>
<p><a href="http://etfdb.com/2010/five-essential-tips-for-analyzing-etfs/"><strong>Michael Johnston from EtfDatabase</strong></a> gave his takes on five important metrics to consider before purchasing ETF, i.e. 1) expense ratio, 2) index methodology, 3) depth of holdings, 4) tracking error and 5) tax efficiency.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.ritholtz.com/blog/2010/04/anatomy-of-a-crash-2009-vs-1907/"><strong>The Big Picture</strong></a> is comparing anatomy of a crash: 2009 vs 1907. It suggests that we’ll have a big correction and then go side ways for about 2 years.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.canadiancapitalist.com/a-peek-into-warren-buffetts-personal-portfolio"><strong>Canadian Capitalist</strong></a> had a peek on Warren Buffett’s personal portfolio. Apparently Buffett is holding mostly US large-cap companies that pay dividend.</p>
